As we head towards the festive break, it’s once again time to reflect on our year of charity fundraising in 2025 for Gorvins’ chosen charity, The Christie. This year we’ve raised over £12,000, going a little way towards helping The Christie continue their incredible work. As an added bonus, we’ve had lots of fun doing it.
Bake-off battles and more
This year we’ve had quizzes, dress-down days, raffles, book sales, a silent auction and doughnut resales (we asked no questions about where the cut-price doughnuts from a well known, poorly spelt doughnut retailer had come from), all in the name of raising much needed funds.
More bad news for our waistlines was to come with the return of the inter-department Bake Off. There’ve been bakewells and brownies, gingerbread and gateaux, puddings and pineapple upside down cakes. Despite some imaginative interpretations of the rules, it’s all been very competitive good fun. Well done to the Family Department, who are our 2025 Bake Off Champions.

Storm Amy didn’t stop us
In October we took on the Goyt Valley Challenge on a biblical, windy and wet Saturday morning as Storm Amy blew through. Massive congratulations to the team comprising Rowan Uren, Paul Lupton, Paul Reddy, Karen Davenport, Mike Smoult, Mahua Jana, Magda Kiszczynska, Mia Senior, Guy Lightowler and Gorvins’ friends Stacey and Cath for completing the walk in such challenging conditions. The team completed the 24 km or 15 mile challenge with smiles on their faces, at least once the pub was in sight.
About The Christie Charity
The Christie Charity provides continuous funding for a number of services throughout The Christie hospital, including the cancer information centre, art room and complementary therapy. Our fundraising this year helps contribute towards The Christie’s major developments, including the campaign to build a new scanning centre at The Christie and to bring a Total Body PET CT scanner to the hospital.
