Christian Mancier has been elected as President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
Christian is a Partner in our Corporate & commercial team, which he first joined as a trainee solicitor over 25 years ago. He has been involved with the Chamber for many years having served as a non-exec director, Vice-President of the Chamber and Stockport President of the Chamber. He also served as Chair of the Stockport Economic Alliance between 2015 and 2019 where during that time Christian was a co-founder of Gander Careers, a Stockport initiative to bring business and education together to enable students to gain real life experience of career options post-education which ran for approximately 6 years and helped hundreds of students.
He said: “I’m very honoured to be appointed President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. I have a long association with the Chamber going back to attending my first networking event nearly 25 years ago and during that time I’ve seen the great work that has been done by my predecessors in the role.
“These are challenging times for businesses who, coming off the back of events like Brexit and the cost-of-living crisis, continue to face economic uncertainty and rising costs. However, there are some signs for optimism and being a Chamber member means you are part of a thriving, inclusive and supportive community with a strong voice in Greater Manchester and beyond.”
Members passed resolutions at the AGM, including the election of Mark Currie, Chief Executive of Middleton-based Mantra Learning, as Vice-President of the Chamber and the following new Assembly members:
- Tom Parson, Big Echo
- Fergal O’Connor, Buy Media
- Emma Nash, Tuscor Lloyds
- Joe Brennan, Biopharma Dynamics
- Jo Daley, Manchester Metropolitan University
Emma Holt, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber and former President, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Christian Mancier as our new President and Mark Currie as Vice-President. Both have already made great contributions to the business community in their local areas and Greater Manchester as a whole. Their experience and support will be invaluable to our members and I look forward to working with them in their new roles.
“This is a very exciting time for the Chamber as we strengthen the support we give our members, along with the rising profile of Greater Manchester, our diverse business community and plans for the city-region. We are focused on the growth of the whole of Greater Manchester and this is the next step in that journey.”
The AGM was followed by the Chamber Assembly where members had the opportunity to discuss key business issues. Sponsored by Ingeus, the Assembly outlined the Chamber’s new Campaign for Business, exploring themes of business growth and resilience and how the Chamber can represent the business community on a local, national and international stage.
Emma added: “In the current economic and political climate, our Assembly is more important than ever. The Assembly is a chance for members to give their views on the issues affecting their business from the economy to skills shortages. The feedback we receive from members at the Assembly feeds into our policy work and means we can share their concerns with politicians both locally and nationally.”
