A prenuptial, sometimes known as a premarital, agreement is entered into by a couple before marriage. The agreement sets out the intentions in regard to how the assets will be divided in the event that the marriage breaks down.

It’s often not the main thought of a couple before they get married, but marriage breakdown has increased significantly over the years due to changes in society and our work-life patterns. The hope is that the agreement will never get used but as a Police Officer, a prenuptial agreement could be extremely useful in helping a marriage to end amicably with all intentions clearly set out to follow. It acts as insurance so both parties know exactly where they stand in relation to their assets should a dissolution of the marriage be inevitable.
