Valerie is a partner and Head of the Gorvins Private Client Department. The Department’s work covers all aspects of Wills, Estate Planning, Inheritance Tax advice, Probate and Estate Administration, Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection work.
Valerie advises on will preparation and tax planning for estates of all sizes, together with probate procedure, offering a practical but sensitive approach to help clients deal with difficult issues. She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and can offer current and relevant advice on this rapidly developing area of the law.
Valerie is also a member of the Court of Protection’s panel of external Receivers, and acts as Receiver for numerous clients whose mental disabilities prevent them from managing their own affairs. She also assists lay Receivers who act in this capacity for relatives.
As a member of Solicitors for the Elderly, Valerie also advises on issues affecting elderly clients such as Powers of Attorney and long term care planning.
As demand grows for the Department’s services, so it is expanding and Valerie now heads a team of specialist lawyers with expertise in Private Client law and a friendly approachable manner.
Recent work includes:
- Preparing tax planning wills for clients with substantial estates including family businesses, and advising on tax reliefs available
- Administering estates which include the nil-rate-band discretionary trust and loan scheme
- Acting as co-trustee alongside clients in numerous family trusts holding substantial assets including unquoted shares
