Nigel's work is devoted solely to employment matters and he has a wide range of experience in this field. He acts almost exclusively for employers and provides sound legal advice combined with a practical commercial approach. His work ranges from the drafting of employment documentation to representing clients in employment tribunal cases. He has considerable expertise in helping clients deal with the myriad situations which employing people can give rise to.
Nigel also gives training presentations, both externally and to clients in house, on many employment law subjects. Recently he has spoken on unfair dismissal and discrimination and on the employment risks and rewards of staff e-mail and internet use.
Nigel’s recent work includes:
- A multiple redundancy situation where the client needed guidance through the complex laws on collective consultation with staff over a number of different sites;
- The conduct through to employment tribunal hearing of a high profile unfair dismissal case involving a well-known sports personality;
- Assisting a client with regard to amending the contracts of employment of a large number of employees, involving negotiation with staff and trade union representatives;
- Representation (including advocacy) on behalf of a business in the Manchester Employment Tribunal in a case involving a claim for alleged holiday entitlement under the Working Time Regulations by a self-employed contractor. The case was won by our client, thereby avoiding significant financial loss.
